Week 1: Welcome to Spring !

 Welcome everyone !

I am reigning in Spring semester by continuing my internship with the Veterans History Project team. I am so lucky to have this opportunity again and can't wait to see where this semester takes me. Starting from now I feel a strong urge to cherish every memory as this year will be my last at UCF. The week started off on a great note, it began with a quick interview and clerical tasks like filling out paperwork to get the internship going. I was alerted to an e-mail that I had been elected to be a team lead this semester. It is a big task to take on but I feel this opportunity will be great for my professional and educational experience. I have been in charge of leading and  training people before but I feel I have the ability to be more flexible since it is not for a corporate setting, but for an internship/school setting I will come back to the difference of this point.

Our first meeting with everyone was on Wednesday afternoon at 12 pm. this covered all the teams that would be participating in the internship for Spring and who was assigned where. We went over introductions to get to know everyone and, what the expectations would be for the semester. Our workload is similar to last semester; per week we need to dedicate at least 12 hours to our work. We also went over our VARK learning styles and I found mine to have changed quite a bit since last semester as mine was heavily read/write and last semester was very Visual. We were told the finished syllabus would be coming out soon, and shortly after this the main meeting came to an end after a brief Q&A.  Right after the meeting all the supervisors and team leads came together to have a training session. Part of the meeting covered what kind of leader you be?

We have responsibilities to do progress check-in's with the other interns working with us, these check in's are for the purposes of keeping up to date with what is being accomplished and figuring out how our team is doing. And also how we as leaders can best help them achieve their goals. Continuing from my previous point, I was left wondering how could I help someone in a different settings than the corporate world. During the training we were given three types of leadership roles Coaching, Situational, and Servant type leadership. I realized I am a mix of all three I'm not sure how this may change through the semester but it will be interesting to figure out. I happen to notice that all people have different needs some need more compassion and guidance where others enjoy to problem solve on their own. I am not sure of those on my team but i'm excited to figure out how we will all work together.

Until next time!
